Scrap
The term ‘scrap’ is usually used for the leftover part of raw materials and it is limited to material that has some minor sales value. Metal shavings with a minor sales value would normally be classified as (Colin Drury, Management and cost accounting, p.210)
Intermittent Transfer
In intermittent transfer the workstations’ position is fixed. Parts are moved with an intermittent or discontinuous motion between the stations and then registered at the proper locations for processing. All parts are moved at the same time, hence the term synchronous transfer system which is also used to describe this method of workpiece transport. Examples of intermittent transfer applications can be found in machining operations, pressworking operations and mechanized assembly.

House of Quality
The term House of Quality is a diagram which is a part of Quality Function Deployment that is defined as ‘a system for translating consumer requirements into appropriate company requirements at each stage from research and development to engineering and manufacturing to marketing/sales and distribution’ by The American Supplier Institute.
(House of Quality in a Minute, Christian N. Madu, p.1)
Fouling
The term fouling denotes that the heat transfer surfaces have been altered by such processes. Thus, when fouling occurs on both surfaces, there is a total of five resistances to heat transfer.
