Process Plant Collection

Process manufacturers also collect performance data, but they are not concerned with individual products. Instead they collect performance data of their plant and process; this often provides a measure of the quality of the product being produced.
Process manufacturers are particularly interested in the following parameters : temprature, pressure, weights and flow rates. Weights are for interest because they report the quantities that have been mixed to meet the the requirements of a particular recipe, whether this is the chemicals blending into an oil, the balance of wood and recycled pulps feeding a paper-making machine or the flour , oil, fruits, that are baked on a food production line. The tempratures and pressures need monitoring as the manufacture takes place.
The traditional means of recording such parameters has been via pen recorders operating on strip charts in which the chart is very slowly advanced beneath pen. the modern way of collection this information and data is via supervisory control and data acquisition systems. SCADA systems provide supervisory control, not online closed-loop control.
