Rockwell Hardness
Testing
(OLD)
No definition before.
(NEW / BETTER)
Rockwell hardness testing is one of the most widely used
methods for determining hardness because:
(1)
The Rockwell test is simple to perform and does
not require highly skilled operators
(2)
By using different loads and indenters, Rockwell
hardness testing can be used to determine the hardness of most metals and
alloys, ranging from the softest bearing materials to the hardest steels
(3)
The entire operation normally requires only 5 to
10 s to complete, making process control an excellent application; and
(4)
All readings are taken directly from a dial or
are displayed digitally.
