Goal Programming
Goal-based philosophy has been formalised in the modern field operational research and management science by the technique of goal programming (GP). The earliest GP formulation was introduced by Charnes et al(1955) in the context of executive compensation. At that point the term “goal programming” was not used and the model was seen as an adaptation of linear programming. After some development, the technique is brought into common usage as an operational research tool. Although goal programming can correctly be viewed as a generalisation of linear programming, it is also a bona fide multi-criteria decision-making technique.

Fettling
Fettling is a step of the preparation of the furnace for charging. In this step, the furnace hearth is lined, or “fettled,” with strong iron oxides of basic character. The fettling requires extensive renewals after practically every melt. The principal “fettling” materials used are: Basic slag from reheating furnaces; slag from the puddling furnace itself, usually roasted etc.
