AS/RS:
Automated manufacturing systems such as flexible manufacturing systems can provide quick changeovers to different part types and their cost-effective production only if we can get the right parts, pallets, fixtures, and tools to the right place at the right time. For this purpose an efficient system for their storage and retrieval together with a material transportation system is required an integrated FMS, AGVS, and AS/RS system provides an efficient production system for manufacturing low- to medium- volume and middle- to high-variety products. It is addressed a number of issues related to the design and analysis of automative storage and retrieval system.
Types of AS/RS:
1-Unit load AS/RS
2-Miniload AS/RS
3-Person-on-board AS/RS
4-Deep-lane AS/RS
5-Automated item retrieval system

Hierarchical Coding:
The structure of these codes is like a tree in which each symbol amplifies the information provided in the previous digit. The major advantage of hierarchical coding is that it captures a great deal of information in a relatively short code. The hierarchical nature of the code makes it useful for storage and retrieval of design-related information such as part geometry, material and size. The applicability of these codes in manufacturing is rather limited, as it is difficult to capture information on manufacturing sequences in a hierarchical manner. The disadvantage of this type code is that it requires expertise to conceive such a coding system for a part spectrum.

Yoidon:
It is a component of a Toyota production system. Yo-i-don refers to a coordinated approach to simultaneous production of parts or subassemblies for assembly into a next-stage subassembly.

Semifinished part:
Semi-finished contacts are a preliminary step in the manufacturing of contact parts. Technical and economic aspects determine the manufacturing technology to be used. Mechanical, electrical, thermal, electro-thermal, as well as physical processes are applied to blend materials with sometimes very different physical and technological properties.

Semi-finished products with aluminum cladded surfaces and the punched parts manufactured from them are used in hybrid housings for electronic applications. At the interface between electromechanical connectors and electronic subassemblies, aluminum is used as a bondable surface.Semi-finished products with selective solder layer are the basic product for safety fuses.
