UTILITY MODEL
(OLD)
Some countries for
example Japan, Germany nad Korea allow utility model patents, which can be
thougt of small, more specific utility patents. Utility models typically have a
shorter life that a utility patent and were originally intended to provide some
quick, inexpensice legal protection fr small invnetor. From a practial stand
point, utility models are normally very narrowly claimed, or very specific to a
particular product or machine.

managers, H. Jackson Knight)
(NEW / BETTER)
The explanations
provided so far have been based on the patent system but, Taiwan like Japan,
also has a utility model system. Since an invention that can be filed as a
patent and for which a patent right can be obtained can also be filed as a
utility model application, the same attention must be paid to utility models as
to patents.
Additionaly, a
utility model right remains in force for 10 years.
