Production flow analaysis:

Production flow analaysis (pfa) is an approach top art family idintification and machine cell formation that was pioneered by J. Burbidge. It s a method for identifying part familes and associated machine grouping that uses the information contained on production route sheets rather than part drawings . Workparts with identical or similar routings are classified into part families .( Automation, production systems, and computer-integrated manufacturing ; Mikell P. Groover , pg. 516)

Mass manufacturing:

Mass manufacturing idealised by Henry Ford , was a strap down system, incapable of dealing with variations in the type of product. This rigidity started becoming an obstacle and with onset of wordwide competitiveness mass manufacturing became viable for only some products. This is how mass manufactuing evolved form the era of manufacturing to the era of mass customisation. Lost Foam Casting :

The lost foam casting process origineated in 1958. The lost foam process consists of first making a foam pattern are created from polystrene beads , similar in s,ze and shape to sand granules , expanded to the desired shape using aluminiun toolnig. More complex shapes can be created by gluing a number of patterns together. The assemblies are then attached to a central foam piece or tree. ,Depending on size multiple a patterns can be produced on a single tree. (Workshop Processes, Practices and Materials ; Bruce J. Zero inventory :

The consept of a supply chain is to have items flowing from one tage of supply to next , both within the business and along the supply chain. Any stock in the system is caused by delay between the processes . the more stock there is in more locations the more difficukt it is to count , and therefore one of the techniques that should be considered when reducing inventory it to eliminate stockholidng processes.
